The article highlights the results of the research on the efficiency of the effects of the breeding selection and the selection of parent pairs on the level of milk productivity and to receive descendants of the desired type. Dairy farms need to increase their production capacity. First of all, in order to find the solution of this issue it is necessary to pay attention to the breeding work.Milk production requires differentiation of the herd into a breeding core, a production group and a removal group. In the breeding herd there are cows with high productive intakes, which should be used to receive repair young animals. The productivity of the first-born cows depends on the level of productivity of the cows of the breeding core. The breeding work requires getting the repair heifers with high genetic predilections. These issues are relevant in the current conditions of dairy farming. As a result of the selection, the breeding core of 360 cows was formed. It represents 45% of the stock of the dairy herd and allows getting about 180 heifers from which 153 first-born cows will be bred after the removal of 15% by exterior and constitution. The conducted researches have determined that the productivity of cows of the breeding core is by 680 kg (selection differential) higher compared to the average herd productivity and makes 8,480 kg of milk per lactation. Using the data of the research, it was found that the breeding selection effect is 225 kg at the generating interval of 5 years, while the effect of the selection of parent pairs is 102 kg. The total effect of the breeding selection and the selection of parent pairs is 327 kg of milk per generation. The estimated milk yield of descendants (heifers) received from the cows of the breeding core will be 8,807 kg of milk per lactation, which is by 1,007 kg more compared to the mothers’ yields. In the future in order to increase the milk productivity, repair young animals should be obtained from the cows of the breed core.
